1. First steps / commissioning SMART+ products in an Apple HomeKit system

1.1. What do I need to start operating SMART+ products in conjunction with an Apple HomeKit system?

To operate SMART+ products in conjunction with an Apple HomeKit system you need:

- An iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch with iOS 10 or higher (make sure you are using the latest iOS version in order to avoid error messages)

- The Apple Home App (installed by default from iOS 10 on all Apple devices)

- One or more SMART+ HomeKit lamps or luminaires (indicated by the ‘Works with Apple HomeKit’ branding)

2. Using and operating SMART+ HomeKit products in an Apple HomeKit system

2.1. How can SMART+ HomeKit products be updated?

Please follow these steps to update your SMART+ HomeKit products:

1. Turn on your SMART+ HomeKit products and do not disconnect them from the power supply while updating.

2. Connect your SMART+ HomeKit products with your Apple Home app.

3. Install the ‚LEDVANCE Smart Home‘ app from the Apple App Store.

4. Open the ‚LEDVANCE Smart Home‘ app. Your SMART+ HomeKit products that need a firmware update are shown under the ,Updates Available’ tab.

5. Select the SMART+ HomeKit product you want to update and activate the ‚Update‘ Button

6. Keep the app open until the message ‚Firmware update completed‘ appears.

The firmware of your SMART+ HomeKit product is now up to date.

2.2. How can SMART+ HomeKit products be reset?

Individual SMART+ HomeKit products can be reset to factory setting (delivery status) and reconfigured without the entire Apple HomeKit system having to be reinstalled. This can be done either by removing the product within the Apple Home app or by following these steps:

a) Resetting RGBW SMART+ HomeKit products:

To reset SMART+ HomeKit RGBW products to the factory settings, switch it ON and OFF five times in succession for three seconds each time. When switched on again, the lamp flashes for confirmation blue, red and green and can now be re-integrated into the Apple HomeKit system.

b) Resetting TW SMART+ HomeKit products:

To reset SMART+ HomeKit TW products to the factory settings, switch it ON and OFF five times in succession for three seconds each time. When switched on again, the lamp flashes three times alternately warm white and cold white for confirmation and can now be re-integrated into the Apple HomeKit system.

c) Resetting DIM SMART+ HomeKit products:

To reset SMART+ HomeKit DIM products to the factory settings, switch it ON and OFF five times in succession for three seconds each time. When switched on again, the lamp flashes three times for confirmation and can now be re-integrated into the Apple HomeKit system.

2.3. How do my SMART+ HomeKit lamps and luminaires respond in the event of a power failure?

As soon as power is restored again after a power failure, the plugged-in or screwed-in SMART+ lamps and luminaires are set to the last used settings.

However if a SMART+ HomeKit product has been turned off in the Apple Home app before the power failure, then after the power is restored it will be set to the setting used when the product was last turned on.

3. General questions on SMART+ products

3.1. What is the range of SMART+ HomeKit products?

SMART+ HomeKit uses Bluetooth as its transmission standard. This means that depending on the construction material of a building, the signal may be impaired in certain areas.

As long as the Bluetooth signal is not compromised, it can reach a range of up to 50 meters between your Apple device and a SMART+ HomeKit product.

3.2. With which SMART+ products can I use the Apple HomeKit system?

The SMART+ products that are compatible with the Apple HomeKit system are without exception branded with ‚Works with Apple HomeKit‘. Please note that these products are designed exclusively for the Apple HomeKit system and therefore are not compatible with our SMART+ Zigbee products. This restriction applies in both directions.

3.3. How many SMART+ products can I add to the Apple HomeKit system?

There is no limitation of SMART+ HomeKit products that can be paired with the Apple HomeKit system. However due to the technicalities of the Bluetooth standard we recommend a maximum of six SMART+ HomeKit products simultaneously used in one Apple HomeKit system as too many concurrently driven devices can cause delays in the command execution of the system.
